Concluding Remarks In an effort to encourage theoretically based and well-articulated research on the outcome and process of nonbehavioral individual child and parent psychotherapy, we have presented three arguments: (1) that much of the past research was a response to an inadequate question but that nevertheless repeated reviews of this literature support the conclusion that nonbehavioral child therapy does facilitate child development; (2) that some research projects have been executed that provide reliable and valid data in relation to specific hypotheses; and (3) that the accumulation of specific knowledge as to the factors influencing the efficacy of nonbehavioral parent and child psychotherapy research is more likely to occur under the following conditions: 1.
