They began to start the day with porridge instead of beer, as Franklin did. In his spare time, while his colleagues were at a tavern, he read. London was heaven to him because it was full of books. Franklin isn’t surrounded by American supporters. “Mr. Franklin’s popularity is nothing here,” Penn told a friend. ” Neither man can keep his cool for long, and very quickly the conversation becomes undiplomatic.
