Unless a hitter finishes off his swing properly, he will not be using his full capabilities to swing through the ball and hit it hard. Therefore, the hitter should remember to start from his feet and work his way up his body in order to develop the proper follow-through (Figure 4-1). Since balance begins with the feet, proper positioning of the feet is essential.

The consistent hitter is able to answer all of these questions and then stride to the plate with a purpose in mind. The consistent hitter is also wary, and will not let the pitcher talk him into looking inside or swinging at off-speed pitches early in the count. Instead, the consistent hitter will be able to identify the location and type of pitch he can be aggressive with, and then dominate that pitch. He will also be productive in each at-bat by either coming through with a big base hit, moving another runner ahead, or laying down a bunt.
