As admission to more selective schools has become increasingly competitive, parents have felt driven to overschedule and manage even very young children with an eye toward creating the perfect résumé. When I visit their homes, the children's rooms are crammed with expensive books, but the parent's rooms are empty. Bank and Kahn in The Sibling Bond describe three kinds of sibling relationship: Extreme loyalty involves putting a sibling first even above loyalty to spouse and children—and a willingness to make enormous sacrifices. In other words, it's is a demonstration of power used against someone who has less power in that particular area.
